Welcome to International Schools Riau, school year 2013-2014. The planning and preparation is done! We can’t wait to have the students walk through the doors on Wednesday morning.

The bus schedule for on camp families is almost identical to last year. We will email a note to you on Tuesday, giving you the approximate pick up time. Children can arrive at school any time after 7:30. Supervision is provided in the hallways and on the playground.

In terms of food, if your children live on camp, they just need to bring with them a mid-morning snack and a water container. Off camp children, in addition to a snack will also need to pack a lunch. Microwaves are available in the lunchroom to heat-up food. Please make the snacks and lunches healthy. We ask that candy and chocolates be saved for treats at home.

Basic supplies (pencils, pens and note paper) are provided for children. Parents please ensure that your children have a hat, a backpack and a water bottle. We also encourage students to have sunscreen and mosquito repellent available. All of these items; along with plastic containers for lunches and snacks should have your family name written on them so that should an item be misplaced we can return it.

School will begin on August 14th at 8:00am with a morning assembly in the music room; all parents are welcome to attend. We will ‘gong-in’ the Pedrett and Nileshwar families on Wednesday.

Lunch is from 12:00-1:00; this means that your children will arrive home around 12:15 and get picked up approximately 30 minutes later. Dismissals at the end of the school day are as follows:

Preschool 3                        11:00

Preschool 4                        12:00

Kindergarten to Grade 8    3:15

Our Parent/Student handbook will go home with the youngest child in each family early next week. If you have a question, no matter how small, please don’t hesitate to ask. We want these first days of school to set the tone for the year: exciting, challenging, fun, filled with new experiences and friendships.

New Parent Orientation: August 30th at 4:00 pm in the Performing Arts rm.

Sincerely

Lory Thiessen Principal/Director International Schools Riau
