Congratulations!

I wish to congratulate Shane van Staden, Joe Murphy and Lindsay Lavery for their achievement of completing the triathlon in Singapore last weekend. By taking on this challenge, these gentlemen were role models of “Self Directed Learners” for our children. A self directed learner looks for opportunities for personal growth by facing new challenges. Well done, guys! I am sure your efforts are responsible for the increased participation in our own triathlon which has been rescheduled for November 9th.

Professional Development for ISR Teachers

Next week Thursday and Friday, the Rumbai teachers and staff will host their Duri counterparts for two days of professional development and team building. The focus will be threefold:

1. Review and revise the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results common assessments.

2. Review ISR’s accreditation action plans in preparation for the WASC visit in March

3. Initiate stage one of our curriculum review process for 2013-2014. We look forward to a productive and enjoyable two days with our friends and colleagues.

Community Service

Planning for the Thanksgiving Dinner has begun, and with that our thoughts turn to the ISR Community Service Fund Raiser which is held in conjunction with that event. Last year a very successful fund raising drive resulted in a number of shaved heads on faculty. As we are thankful for our bounteous gifts, we reach out through community service to help members of our host nation.

Last years’ funds were used in a number of different ways. We supported the Insan Permata Orphanage by providing school tuition and uniforms for all of the students. We purchased beds and mattresses, bought them a washing machine and paid for the creation of a play ground. Our community service fund supported the Green Dignity program and helped Rumbai move to a plastic free environment. We also supported members of the national staff who required help with school fees and with family medical emergencies.

We are looking to our ISR Rumbai family to meet the challenge of matching or surpassing last year’s fund raiser. We need you to come forward with an item for sale. You can either set a price on a first come - first serve basis, or you can make it a silent auction bidding item. Put on your thinking caps. With all the talent in our community, we will once again have an amazing variety of fund raising items! Drop me an email if you have a contribution.
